When You Can't Wait for New Electrical Equipment
Monday, August 7, 2017
Manufacturer lead times don't always line up with the realities of a plant shutdown, equipment failure or project deadline.
When waiting weeks or months for new electrical equipment isn't an option, used, surplus and professionally reconditioned equipment can provide another path forward — especially when the required equipment is already in stock.
That's where EMSCO's inventory makes a difference. We stock a wide range of legacy and current industrial electrical equipment, and we recondition equipment in-house so we can respond quickly when customers need a replacement.
A Square D NW40 Lineup Shipped the Same Day
A food producer needed a Square D NW40 main-breaker lineup and couldn't afford to wait through the normal lead time for new equipment.
EMSCO had the equipment available. We supplied a main-breaker lineup with distribution sections and breakers and shipped the equipment the same day.
The customer didn't have to wait for a new lineup to be manufactured because the equipment they needed was already here.
A Square D Model 6 MCC Lineup Completed in Two Days
In another case, a customer needed a Square D Model 6 motor control center on a much shorter timeline than new equipment could provide.
EMSCO was able to configure the required MCC lineup using equipment from our inventory. The lineup included starter, feeder and VFD buckets and was completed in two days.
For the customer, the important part wasn't whether the equipment came from a factory production schedule. It was getting the right equipment, properly configured, on the timeline the job required.
Why In-Stock Electrical Equipment Matters
Electrical equipment doesn't always fail on a convenient schedule. Projects change. Existing equipment becomes obsolete. A replacement may no longer be available new, or the manufacturer lead time may simply be too long.
EMSCO has spent decades building an inventory specifically for situations like these. Our warehouse includes equipment from manufacturers such as Square D, Eaton/Cutler-Hammer, Westinghouse, GE, Siemens/ITE, Allen-Bradley and others.
Depending on the application, we may be able to help with:
- Circuit breakers
- Bus plugs and bus duct
- Motor control centers and MCC buckets
- Low-voltage switchgear
- Transformers
- Switches and other power distribution equipment
Much of that equipment is used, surplus, obsolete, hard-to-find or professionally reconditioned in-house.
Don't Assume a Long Factory Lead Time Is Your Only Option
If a manufacturer quotes a lead time that doesn't work for your project, or the equipment you need is no longer manufactured, it's worth checking existing inventory before redesigning the system around something new.
Start with the manufacturer, catalog or part number, voltage and amperage. For older or difficult-to-identify equipment, photos of the nameplate and existing equipment can help us identify what you have.
Not everything in EMSCO's inventory is listed online, so don't assume we don't have it just because you can't find an exact match on the website.
