Large electrical projects can get complicated. Electrical systems are kind of like jigsaw puzzles, with hundreds of pieces fitting together just-so. One misplaced component or blown fuse, and the whole thing malfunctions. Whether you’re replacing a single component or building a new system, you probably know exactly what you’re looking for, right down to the brand, product number, and production year. It can be frustrating to search for a specific electrical component, particularly when the item you need is no longer manufactured.
At EMSCO, we specialize in used and refurbished electrical equipment. We’ve got more recent components from big brands like Square D and Cutler-Hammer, but we also stock rare and obsolete parts. One of the rarest items we carry is panelboard switches from the Cleveland Switchboard Company.
The Cleveland Switchboard Company was founded in 1907 in Cleveland, Ohio. The company has since gone out of business, but their panelboard switches are still used in many factories. It’s hard to find information about the Cleveland Switchboard Company, but it was a staple of the Cleveland manufacturing industry in the early 20th century.
Today, Cleveland switches are incredibly rare. Most of the switches we find were made in the 1950s or 1960s. Last year, EMSCO sold one to a customer who had been searching for weeks, and he was astonished we had one. That sense of excitement is one of the best parts of EMSCO’s business. We love the thrill of the hunt!
If you’re looking for an obsolete electrical component and don’t see it on our website, give us a call at 1-800-328-1842. We buy used equipment frequently, so our inventory changes often.

When a natural disaster strikes, the effects are endless. Families are displaced, businesses close, and natural habitats are drastically altered. Technology suffers, as well. We rely on electricity to power everything from office equipment to home appliances, but there are many behind-the-scenes systems and industries that are affected during a natural disaster.
Since EMSCO opened in the late 1940s, we have prided ourselves on helping customers in emergency situations. We do everything we can to ship the product the customer needs the same day. This has never been more apparent than after Hurricane Sandy devastated the East Coast in the fall of 2012. We had a multitude of customers, including manufacturing plants, aquariums, and refineries, whose operations were shut down because of damage to electrical products caused by Sandy. EMSCO stayed open 12 hours a day until all of our customers were taken care of and back up and running. EMSCO is ready every day to help anyone with emergency industrial electrical product needs.
