EMSCO Recycles as Brookdale Mall is Demolished
EMSCO, one of the largest U.S dealers in used and refurbished electrical equipment, announces completion of a major reclamation project of electrical equipment from the Brookdale Mall. Equipment included transformers, breaker panels, wiring and switchgear. Brookdale Center was a regional shopping mall in Brooklyn Center, MN, which opened in 1962. It became the 3rd mall in the Twin Cities, after Southdale Center and Apache Plaza. After a long decline, the mall closed in 2010. Demolition on this Mall was recently started and EMSCO has spent over 5 weeks removing electrical equipment that will be refurbished and stocked in its Minnesota warehouse. Equipment included were transformers, breaker panels, wiring and switchgear. The equipment was clean and in very good condition. EMSCO’s crew was able to work around the various construction personnel, forklifts and other heavy equipment operators to get the electrical equipment removed and loaded on to trucks to be taken to its warehouse in Fridley, MN. The equipment reclamation schedule had to be in sync with other timelines associated with the demolition. On October 15th, 2010, after multiple redevelopment plans for the failed mall were suggested and attempted, plans were finally announced by Gatlin Development Co., a Tennessee based firm, to acquire the Brookdale Shopping Center and in conjunction with the city of Brooklyn Center to transform the mostly vacant mall into a new shopping center anchored by a Wal-Mart Supercenter. The announcement included the following plans: • Rename the center “Shingle Creek Crossing • Tear down most of the existing structure, but leave the recently constructed food court in place • Build a 150,000-sq foot Wal-Mart Supercenter which would include a grocery store • Build or redevelop an additional 435,000 sq. feet of leasable retail space • Add 8 restaurant pad sites and 2 multiple tenant or service buildings • Create a green creek space by resurrecting and excavation of Shingle Creek, a stream that was buried in s subterranean culvert under the parking lot when the center was first constructed in the 1960s. EMSCO Completes Large Motor Control Project for Petro Constructors
EMSCO Completes Large Motor Control Project for Petro Constructors
Fridley Minnesota, June 24th, 2010 --Electric Motor Supply Company (EMSCO), a supplier of used and refurbished electrical equipment, announces the completion of a large project for Petro Constructors. Petro Constructors, LLC is a Texas USA based multi-discipline construction company specializing in field construction, engineering, procurement, emergency services and industrial maintenance for the oil, gas and petrochemical industries. www.petroconstructors.com
PETRO ordered a large “Plant MCC” that was 13 back-to-back sections that included 29- New Benshaw Soft Starts, 5- New Benshaw VFD’s, 13- Reconditioned starter buckets, 7- Reconditioned feeder buckets and 3- Reconditioned transformers. They also bought a smaller MCC (11 sections), with a Main Distribution Board, 4- Distribution panels, 1- New Steelman Capacitor Bank and 3- Used reconditioned transformers. Both MCC’s also contained new Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors and Secondary Surge Arrestors.
EMSCO was able to complete this large project in a timely fashion. With our skilled employees, all equipment was painted, refurbished (if necessary) and put together to the customer specifications. Thoroughly going through each bucket was a must, as they contained many components and required complex wiring.
This was EMSCO’s first large Re-UL labeling project and therefore the smaller equipment was completed first, to make sure we were on the right track for the UL inspector/guidelines. Because of EMSCO’s quality in our shop, the inspector was able to pass all the equipment after his two day visit. The Plant MCC was then started and completed in another three weeks. With the knowledge from our first UL inspection, the Plant MCC passed inspection in 1 day.
Petro was very satisfied with the lead time on the equipment and with the pricing. New equipment would have had a 10-12 week lead time. Once EMSCO was able to begin work on the equipment, some equipment was done in 3 weeks and the remainder was done in an additional 3 weeks.
EMSCO is a privately owned company located in Fridley Minnesota. EMSCO supplies refurbished and reconditioned electrical equipment for large facilities across the US as well as Canada and Mexico. They specialize in obsolete and hard to find equipment including Transformers, MCC Buckets, Busway Systems, Switches, VFD’s Circuit Breakers, and Starters. Equipment can be purchased on line at their website www.emscomn.com.

Bus Duct: What exactly do we mean by Bus Duct?
Bus duct is used to distribute electrical power throughout a plant or building. It usually comes in 10 feet sections and power can be accessed every foot. You need to place a bus plug at the 1 foot spot or at the end of the 10 foot section to obtain electricity - from 30 to 1200 amps. You then need to run a power cord from the bus plug to whatever you are trying to "power up" - a motor, transformer, etc.
